A Tale of Two Sons

16 Feb

I just finished reading this book this week and I have to say, it is one of the best books on Biblical interpretation and application I have ever read.

It is an exposition of Luke 15, the parable of the prodigal son.  It brought meaning and understanding to a story I had heard all of my life and never thought twice about.  The level of detail involved in the explanation of this parable was staggering and I learned more about joy and repentance from this study than I had learned anywhere else in my life.

More than that, it gave me new insight and wisdom in how to understand the parables that Jesus taught.  Context is everything, and there was so much of middle-eastern lifestyle and customs that I didn’t know, that it actually prevented me from truly understanding what this parable is about.

And if you think it’s about the prodigal son, you’d better think again!
