John 3: 1-15 (ESV) Part 3

Click here to read John 3: 1-15 (ESV)

Let’s bring this all together to see what this passage is telling us:

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Regeneration is a sovereign act of God. Sovereign means complete control. This means that God is in complete control of our regeneration, which means that God is in complete control of our salvation.

(Let me pause while some of you hyperventilate!)

God is in complete control of our salvation.

Probably no other doctrine has been more divisive to the church than the doctrine of election. This blog’s purpose is not to divide the church, but to bring us all together in unity under the authority of the Word of God. That being said, I cannot ignore a doctrine that is found all throughout the Bible.

For the purposes of this passage, the only thing we need to understand is that the doctrine exists and that it is Biblical. Let me give an example: We all believe in the trinity. We sing, “God in three persons, blessed trinity.”

The trinity can be summed up as follows:

  • God is three persons
  • Each person is fully God
  • There is One God

Can I explain it? No. Can you? No.

Yet we believe it, because it’s found in the Bible. The doctrine of election is the same way.

Election can be summed up as follows:

  • God is sovereign
  • God chose those who are being saved
  • We have free will, because God gave us free will
  • Our free will does not change or contradict God’s sovereignty

Can I explain it? No. Can you? No

Yet there are many passages that show this to be true. Some of them, we will explore through the Book of John. Others, we will explore in later posts.

I know that there are some people out there who aren’t going to agree with me. That’s ok.

As long as we don’t let the issue become divisive!!!

If we allow the issue to become divisive, then we have allowed satan to gain a foothold in our lives and in our hearts. He loves to tear us apart and he will use anything, especially church doctrine, to do it. I love the church and I am committed to its peace and purity, and so the last thing I want is for you to read this blog and be offended by it.

I encourage questions and comments and feedback. We are all learning together and there is much I can learn from you, so post a comment and share your thoughts!!!

God's ways are higher than our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. We may not understand everything there is to know about God, but all we must do is simply trust in Him and His word. I believe you said it all in this post my friend. Continue your good work in the Lord.God bless and keep you.

Hi everyone,I wanted to address something that happened this week in relation to this post. I received a comment (btw, I moderate all comments) on this post from a gentleman who posted a link to a video. In the spirit of openness and discussion, I began watching the video to see what it was all about. The bottom line to the video was that there is one God, but that He does not exist as three persons and there is no trinity. That is heresy! With apologies to the gentleman who posted his comment, I could not allow such blatant heresy to be posted on this blog. I have privately e-mailed him and explained why his comment was deleted, and invited him to continue the discussion in private through e-mail. Thank you everyone, for reading and commenting!
